  • What a HydraFacial Is and How It Works

A HydraFacial is a multi-step facial that uses patented vortex-fusion technology to cleanse, exfoliate, extract impurities, and hydrate the skin with serums enriched with antioxidants, peptides, and hyaluronic acid. It is non-surgical and non-invasive.

  • Where and How a HydraFacial Is Used

HydraFacial treats the face, neck, and decollete in 30 to 60 minutes. Choose the Express, Essential, or Ultimate package, or add a HydraFacial to other treatments in the same visit.

  • What Happens at Your Appointment

You start with a skin consultation with a clinical aesthetician, then relax through the five treatment steps: cleansing, exfoliating, extracting, hydrating, and protecting. We finish by reviewing your results and post-treatment instructions.

  • Results You Will Notice Right Away

You can see and feel results immediately: skin looks glowing and feels refreshed the moment treatment ends. Most clients maintain results with a session every 4 to 6 weeks.

  • HydraFacial vs Other Facial Treatments

The exfoliating and extracting steps set the HydraFacial apart from other facials. It is gentle enough to combine with treatments like dermaplaning, Xeomin, or RF microneedling in the same visit.

Good Candidates? Is This Right for You?

    Concerns a HydraFacial Addresses

Blackheads, age spots, oily skin, uneven skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, and dry or fatigued skin. It is also a favorite for anyone who wants an immediate, camera-ready glow before an event.

    Who Is a Good Candidate?

    Safety Notes

Contraindications & Risks / Side Effects

    Contraindications
An active cold sore, rash, open wound, sunburn, or skin infection in the treatment area: reschedule until the skin has fully healed.
A medium or deep chemical peel, laser treatment, or facial waxing in the treatment area within the past 2 weeks: tell your provider so timing can be adjusted.
An active flare of an inflammatory skin condition such as rosacea, eczema, or psoriasis in the treatment area: your provider will assess whether treatment should be deferred.
Known allergies to skincare ingredients, including aspirin or salicylates: tell your provider before treatment so the serums and boosters used in your session can be checked against your allergies.
Pregnancy or breastfeeding: tell your provider, as some serums and boosters may be adjusted or left out of your session.
Oral isotretinoin use now or within the past 6 months: tell your provider so exfoliation depth and timing can be reviewed with your prescribing clinician.

    Risks / Side Effects

Temporary redness, warmth, or mild tightness in the treated skin. This usually settles within a few hours, though redness can last a day or more in some people.
Mild stinging or tingling during the exfoliation step.
Temporary sun sensitivity from the exfoliating acids used in the treatment, so daily sunscreen and gentle skincare matter for several days afterward.
Small blemishes or a short lived breakout can appear in the days after extractions. Tell your provider if breakouts worsen or do not settle, so your plan can be reassessed.
Bruising or small broken capillaries can occur from the suction used during extractions, most often on thin or delicate skin.
Irritation or an allergic reaction to a serum or booster ingredient is uncommon but possible; tell your provider about any known ingredient allergies before treatment.
Temporary darkening of the treated skin can follow the exfoliating step. It is more likely in deeper skin tones or after recent sun exposure. Tell your provider if a colour change appears or does not fade.

    What To Expect

    Pre & Post Treatment Care

    Pre-Care Instructions
Two weeks before: do not have medium or deep chemical peels or use chemical resurfacing products, and hold off on Botox or Xeomin injections (these can be done after your HydraFacial at the same visit).
72 hours before: avoid excessive sun exposure, use sunscreen, and do not use tanning beds.
48 hours before: pause over-the-counter acne products, exfoliating products, and products containing retinol; pause prescription tretinoin only if your prescribing clinician says it is safe. Do not wax or use depilatories.
Day of your appointment: do not shave your face.

    Post-Care Instructions

Day after treatment: thoroughly cleanse your face; you can resume using makeup products.
For 48 hours: do not wax or use depilatories, and avoid retinol, tretinoin, exfoliating treatments, and over-the-counter acne products.
For 5 days: use sunscreen daily to prevent UV exposure to treated skin.
For 2 weeks: avoid medium and deep chemical peels and laser hair removal treatments.

    • What a HydraFacial Is and How It Works

The HydraFacial at Catara Med Spa in Algonquin is a multi-step facial treatment that uses patented vortex-fusion technology to deeply cleanse, exfoliate, and hydrate the skin. It is non-surgical and non-invasive, and every session uses serums enriched with antioxidants, peptides, and hyaluronic acid, customized to your skin’s specific needs.

The treatment moves through five steps: cleansing to remove makeup and surface debris, exfoliating with a gentle chemical peel that softens the epidermis, extracting impurities from deep within the pores, hydrating the skin with topical nutrients, and finishing with protection that locks in nutrients and helps shield the skin from sun damage.

    • Where and How a HydraFacial Is Used

HydraFacial is a facial treatment for the face, neck, and decollete, taking 30 to 60 minutes depending on the option you choose. The Express is a 30 minute facial focused on cleansing, extracting, and hydrating the face. The Essential is a 45 minute treatment for the face and neck that starts with dermaplaning to remove vellus hair so product penetrates better, then finishes with a booster chosen for your skin needs, such as cellular repair, brightening, or hydration.

The Ultimate is a 60 minute treatment for the face, neck, and decollete that includes dermaplaning, a personalized booster, and LED red light therapy designed to stimulate collagen production and enhance product absorption. HydraFacial also works well as an add-on alongside the many other customized skin care treatments at our Algonquin clinic.

    • What to Expect at Your Appointment

Before your HydraFacial in Algonquin, you will meet with one of our clinical aestheticians for a skin consultation. We will discuss any concerns you have about your skin as well as what you would like to accomplish, and help you choose the Express, Essential, or Ultimate option.

During treatment you relax while your provider works through the five steps: cleansing, exfoliating, extracting, hydrating, and protecting. Once the treatment is complete, we review your results and post-treatment instructions and book any follow-up appointments needed to make the most of your results.

    • Results: Immediate Glow, Ongoing Maintenance

You will be able to see and feel results from your HydraFacial immediately. A single treatment rehydrates the skin and leaves it glowing and feeling refreshed, with noticeable results right after your session. You can apply makeup the same day, though you may not want to cover up the natural glow.

For best results, many clients receive a HydraFacial every 4 to 6 weeks. Regular treatments help maintain a healthy skin barrier and keep your complexion looking its best year-round. Results may vary.

    • HydraFacial vs Other Facial Treatments

The exfoliating and extracting steps set the HydraFacial apart from other types of facials: impurities are drawn out of the pores in the same session that the skin is cleansed, exfoliated, and rehydrated. That combination is a big part of why it is one of the most requested treatments at Catara for maintaining a healthy skin barrier and glowing skin.

It also plays well with others. It is gentle enough to combine with other treatments during the same visit: pair it with Xeomin in a single executive glow visit, combine it with RF microneedling for comprehensive skin rejuvenation, or add dermaplaning and a custom booster through the Essential and Ultimate options. Your aesthetician will recommend the right combination at your consultation.
