    What Happens at Your Consultation

    Before You Book

Tell your provider about any medication or supplement you take, including anything that thins the blood, and about any history of cold sores or perioral herpes. Your prescribing clinician is the right person to advise you on whether to pause anything of yours before an appointment, and your provider works from what they tell you.

Contraindications & Risks / Side Effects

    Contraindications
Known hypersensitivity to any component of a calcium hydroxylapatite filler, or to lidocaine if the formulation you receive contains it.
Lip augmentation. Radiesse is not used in the lips, and your provider will discuss a different product if the lips are your concern.
Active infection, inflamed skin, or a cold sore outbreak at or near the planned injection site. Treatment is postponed until the area has fully settled.
A history of severe allergy or anaphylaxis.
A bleeding disorder, or treatment with a blood thinning medicine or supplement. These raise the chance of bruising and bleeding at the injection site. Any decision to change a prescribed medicine belongs to your prescribing clinician.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding. Catara does not treat clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
A permanent filler or an implant already placed in the area you want treated.
Skin in the treatment area that is currently sunburned or carries an active rash.
Your provider reviews your full health history at your consultation and decides whether this treatment is appropriate for you.

    Risks / Side Effects

You may have some temporary redness at the injection sites after your appointment.
Mild swelling or bruising can occur at the injection sites. A cool compress can help if there is swelling.

    • What Radiesse Is and How It Is Placed

Radiesse is a brand of injectable dermal filler. At Catara Med Spa in Algonquin, IL it is placed by injection rather than by surgery: your provider injects it into the areas being treated, and it adds volume and support where it sits. That is what a dermal filler does, and it is why fillers are described as a nonsurgical option.

Nothing is cut and nothing is removed. The appointment runs about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on how many areas are being treated and how much planning the placement needs. Results may vary from person to person.

    • Where Radiesse Is Used at Our Algonquin Location

At our Algonquin, IL location Radiesse is used on the face, on the hands, and on the decolletage. On the face, the areas most often treated are the cheeks and the chin, along with the smile lines and the nasolabial folds that run from the nose toward the corners of the mouth.

Which areas are treated in your appointment, and how much is placed in each, is decided with you at your consultation and mapped out with light marks before anything is injected. If you ask about an area where Radiesse is not the right choice, your provider will tell you that rather than treat it anyway.

    • What to Expect at Your Appointment

Consultations at Catara are where we truly get to know you. We listen to all of your concerns, assess the current condition of your skin, and work with you to determine an injection plan that fits your lifestyle and budget. You have our full attention and are treated as a respected and valued guest at our office. There is no upselling and no pressure.

On the day of your appointment we answer any questions you still have and use light marks to show where the injections will go. Your provider then places the Radiesse according to the plan you agreed on. Afterward we look over the treated area to check the placement, answer anything else you want to ask, and go over how to look after the area at home. You are welcome to book any follow up appointment you need before you leave.

    • How Long Radiesse Results Last

Radiesse adds volume at the point it is placed, so there is a change you can see from the appointment itself. What happens over the weeks after that is something your provider goes over with you at consultation rather than something stated here as a fixed outcome. Results may vary from person to person.

Catara’s own materials describe Radiesse results lasting a year or more. How long yours last depends on the area treated, your metabolism, and your lifestyle. Your provider will tell you when a follow up or a touch up is worth booking, and that timing is set with you rather than run to a schedule.

    • How Radiesse Fits Alongside Other Treatments

Radiesse is a filler, so it works by adding volume where it is placed. Wrinkle relaxers such as Botox and Xeomin work differently: they address lines that come from muscle movement rather than from lost volume. That is why the two get talked about together, and why some clients at our Algonquin location have both, in the same visit or in separate ones.

Catara offers more than one filler, and Radiesse is not automatically the right one for every area or every goal. If a different filler, or a different kind of treatment altogether, is the better match for what you want to change, your provider will say so and explain why. That is the point of starting with a consultation.
