How Long Does Botox Last? A Month by Month Guide
How long does Botox last? Most clients enjoy their results for about 3 to 4 months on average.
Xeomin, our preferred wrinkle relaxer, is listed at about 3 to 4 months as well. Results vary from person to person.
You can typically expect visible effects in 3 to 5 days, with the full effect peaking at 10 to 14 days.
At Catara Med Spa, our licensed injectors offer Botox and Xeomin in Algonquin, IL, and every treatment starts with a consultation.
Below is a month by month timeline, plus straight answers about Xeomin, maintenance and what happens when the effect wears off.
Your Botox Timeline, Day 1 to Month 4
Botox and Xeomin are prescription wrinkle relaxers. They relax the small facial muscles that crease the skin, so dynamic lines soften.
Dynamic lines are the expression lines that form when you frown, squint or raise your brows. Here is what the months after treatment typically look like.
- Treatment day: You meet with a licensed injector, who evaluates your muscle activity and goals, then maps which areas to treat. After a light cleanse, ultra-fine needles target key wrinkle zones, and the injections themselves take about 10 to 15 minutes.
- Days 3 to 5: Visible effects begin to appear as the treated muscles relax.
- Days 10 to 14: The full effect peaks.
- After the peak: Most clients enjoy their results for 3 to 4 months on average. Results vary.
- Months 3 to 4: On average, this is when the effect wears off and the treated muscles move again. It is a good time to talk with your injector about your next visit.
Most clients resume normal activities the same day. Afterward, stay upright for 4 hours, skip strenuous exercise for 24 hours, and avoid heat exposure for 48 hours.
Your injector walks you through the rest of your aftercare before you go.
Planning around an event? Because the full effect peaks at 10 to 14 days, ask your injector about booking so that peak falls before your event.
How Long Does Xeomin Last?
Xeomin typically lasts about 3 to 4 months, and results may vary.
It is our preferred wrinkle relaxer. Xeomin is made without accessory proteins, which is why it is often called a “naked” neurotoxin.
At Catara, Xeomin is used on three areas of the upper face: between the brows, across the forehead, and at the outer corners of the eyes. These areas can be treated on their own or together in the same visit.
A Xeomin visit usually runs 20 to 30 minutes. Your injector studies how your face moves and makes light pen marks where each injection will go.
Over the following months, the muscles gradually regain their movement, which is why Xeomin results are temporary. You can read more about Xeomin injections in Algonquin, IL on our treatment page.

Does Xeomin Wear Off Faster Than Botox?
We list the same range for both: about 3 to 4 months on average, with results that vary from person to person.
Xeomin and Botox are different products, and their dosing units are not interchangeable. Your plan is built around the specific product used.
The practical difference is formulation. Xeomin contains no accessory proteins, which makes it a good option for clients with sensitivities.
The same spacing applies to both: neither is given more often than every 3 months. If you are switching products, tell your injector about any botulinum toxin treatment you have had in the last several months.
Your injector explains the options and recommends what makes sense for you. For a side by side look at the two products, read our Botox vs Xeomin comparison.
What Happens When It Wears Off
The effect of a wrinkle relaxer is temporary. As the product wears off, the treated muscles regain their movement.
There is no set date. On average it happens around 3 to 4 months, and results vary.
Any drooping of a brow or eyelid after treatment is also expected to ease as the product wears off. Tell your injector if it does not.
Your injector reviews the full risk profile of the specific product used with you at your consultation, before anything is injected.
To keep your results, you come back for another treatment. That is the natural time to plan your next visit with your injector.
How Often Should You Get Botox?
Your injector sets your maintenance schedule with you. Treatment more often than every 3 months is not part of our planning.
Your injector looks at how your muscles move. We evaluate your facial expressions and goals to create a personalized plan.
Maintenance visits are quick. A returning visit runs about 15 minutes, compared with roughly 30 minutes for a new client visit.
If you have cold or flu symptoms on the day of your appointment, we reschedule your visit until you have recovered.
Our injectors are licensed and certified in neuromodulator (wrinkle relaxer) injections, and we recommend only what makes sense for you.
No upselling. No pressure.
Does Botox Last Longer the More You Get It?
It may. Maintaining a regular treatment schedule may extend longevity over time, but this varies from person to person.
Regular does not mean frequent. Your plan still keeps treatments at least 3 months apart, and results may vary.
Tell your injector how long your last results held. That helps you plan your next visit together.
We would rather set honest expectations than promise a number we cannot stand behind.
