BEST FOR

Teeth that have darkened with age, stains from foods and beverages such as coffee, tea, red wine, and cola, stains from smoking or certain medicines, wedding and event preparation, maintaining brightness with take-home touch-ups
  • How Teeth Whitening Works

Professional whitening gel is applied to your natural teeth in timed cycles, and some systems use a light to activate it. Before we begin, a barrier protects your gums and the exposed areas of your mouth.

  • What Whitening Can and Cannot Brighten

Whitening works on natural tooth surfaces and targets darkening from age, stains from foods and beverages, and stains from smoking or certain medicines. Crowns, veneers, and other restorations do not change color, so we check them at your consultation.

  • What Happens at Your Appointment

You start with a consultation and shade match. We protect your gums, apply the gel in cycles, and check your teeth and gums for sensitivity every 15 minutes. You brush and floss at the end and go home with whitening gel.

  • When You Will See Results

In-office whitening is designed to brighten your smile in a single visit. Many clients keep their brighter shade for six months to a year depending on diet, habits, and oral hygiene. Results may vary.

  • In-Office, Custom Trays, or Store-Bought Strips

In-office whitening is the fastest and is supervised with sensitivity management built in. Custom trays brighten more gradually at home with a precise fit. Over-the-counter strips cost the least, give the least control, and are often uneven on complex staining.

    About This Treatment

Teeth whitening is one of the quickest cosmetic services we offer. An in-office session runs about 30 to 45 minutes, you go home with whitening gel for maintenance, and there is no recovery time before you head back to your day.

Who Teeth Whitening in Algonquin, IL is For

Good Candidates? Is This Right for You?

    Concerns Teeth Whitening Addresses

Teeth whitening is used for darkening of the teeth that comes with age, staining from foods and beverages such as coffee, tea, red wine, and cola, and darker stains caused by smoking or certain medicines. Many clients also book whitening ahead of a wedding, reunion, or photos.

    Who Is a Good Candidate?

Teeth whitening at Catara is offered to adults, women and men alike, and candidacy, including any age requirements, is confirmed at your consultation. Whitening changes the color of natural teeth only, so if you have crowns, veneers, or other restorations, we check them at your consultation and discuss realistic expectations before you book. A consultation is required, and if a different approach would serve you better, we will say so.

    Safety Notes

Whitening is a cosmetic service; it is not a diagnosis or a cure for any condition. Temporary tooth sensitivity can occur, and some gum sensitivity after treatment is normal and typically self-corrects within a few days. Our protocol includes gum protection, desensitizer steps where appropriate, sensitivity checks during the session, and aftercare guidance. Tell your provider about any dental concerns or recent dental work before you book so your plan can be reviewed. Results may vary.

Contraindications & Risks / Side Effects

    Contraindications
Crowns, veneers, fillings, and other dental restorations do not change color with whitening. When a restoration is visible in your smile, whitening the natural teeth around it can leave a color mismatch, so we check your restorations at your consultation before you book.
Untreated tooth decay, a cracked or broken tooth, exposed root surfaces, or active gum disease. See your dentist first. Whitening is a cosmetic service and is not a treatment for any dental condition.
Anyone who is not an adult. Catara offers whitening to adults only, and the in-office system we use is not recommended for children under 13.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding. Whitening is elective and its effects have not been established for these clients, so Catara does not perform whitening during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
Known sensitivity or allergy to peroxide whitening gels or to any component of the whitening system.
Significant existing tooth or gum sensitivity. Tell your provider, because whitening can increase sensitivity for a few days and your plan may need to change.
Light sensitivity, including anyone receiving light based therapy or taking anything that makes them more reactive to light. Tell your provider and your prescribing clinician before booking, because our in-office sessions use a light.
Recent dental work. Tell your provider about any treatment you have had recently so your whitening plan can be reviewed before you book.
A recent dental examination. We ask that you have seen your dentist recently and that any decay, cracked or broken teeth, exposed root surfaces, or gum disease has been treated before you book whitening with us.

    Risks / Side Effects

Temporary tooth sensitivity can occur after whitening. Our protocol includes desensitizer steps and home care guidance to help reduce discomfort.
Some gum sensitivity after treatment is normal. It typically self-corrects within a few days, and brushing with a toothpaste for sensitive teeth can help until it passes.

    What To Expect

    Pre & Post Treatment Care

    Pre-Care Instructions
Eat and drink before your appointment.
Brush and floss your teeth the morning of your appointment.

    Post-Care Instructions

Avoid dark colored foods and beverages after your treatment, such as coffee, tea, red wine, cola drinks, curry, tomato, and soy sauce. Follow the white diet timing on the aftercare guide you receive at your visit.
Some gum sensitivity is normal after treatment. You may want to brush with a toothpaste for sensitive teeth until it passes.
Use the take-home whitening gel we provide as directed to maintain your results.
Good oral hygiene and periodic touch-ups with take-home gel or custom trays help you keep your shade.

    • How Teeth Whitening Works

Teeth whitening at Catara Med Spa in Algonquin is a cosmetic service for the appearance of your natural teeth. Teeth tend to darken with age, and foods, beverages, smoking, and certain medicines can leave stains that are hard to remove at home.

Before whitening begins, we apply a barrier that protects your gums and the exposed areas of your mouth. Professional whitening gel is then applied to your natural teeth in timed cycles, and some systems use a light to activate the gel. For in-office sessions we use the Zoom Teeth Whitening system.

    • What Whitening Can and Cannot Brighten

Whitening works on the surfaces of your natural teeth. It targets darkening that comes with age, staining from foods and beverages such as coffee, tea, red wine, and cola, and darker stains from smoking or certain medicines.

Crowns, veneers, and other dental restorations do not change color with whitening. At your consultation we check your restorations and talk through what your smile will look like afterward, so your expectations match what whitening actually does. You can choose in-office whitening for a single visit, custom take-home trays for gradual brightening at home, or an in-office session followed by trays for maintenance.

    • What to Expect at Your Appointment

Consultations at Catara are where we get to know you. You meet one of our clinical providers, we talk through your goals and desired results, match your current shade, check your restorations, and confirm that whitening is the best treatment for your needs.

At your session we protect your gums and soft tissue, and a desensitizer may be applied. The whitening gel goes on in cycles, and every 15 minutes we check your teeth and gums for sensitivity. At the end of your treatment you brush and floss, and we send you home with whitening gel and aftercare recommendations for maintenance.

    • When Results Appear and How Long They Last

In-office whitening is designed to brighten your smile within a single visit, so you can see your new shade the same day. Our team has been providing teeth whitening for nearly a decade, and we plan backward from your calendar when you have an event coming up: a common plan is a consultation and shade plan six to eight weeks out, the in-office session about two weeks out, and careful food and beverage choices in the 48 hours before photos.

Many clients keep their brighter shade for six months to a year. Longevity depends on diet, habits, and oral hygiene, and results may vary from person to person. Touch-ups with take-home gel or custom trays help you hold your shade over time.

    • In-Office Whitening, Custom Trays, and Store-Bought Strips

In-office whitening is the fastest of the three. It is done in one supervised visit, with gum protection and sensitivity management built into the protocol.

Custom take-home trays brighten more gradually. They are made to fit your teeth precisely, which also makes them convenient for touch-ups after an in-office session. Over-the-counter strips are the lowest cost option, but they give you the least control and are often uneven on complex staining. At your consultation we can talk through which combination fits your goals and your timeline.
