We do not treat clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and we reschedule if you have cold or flu symptoms on the day. Results may vary.

    Contraindications & Risks / Side Effects

    Contraindications
    Known hypersensitivity to any botulinum toxin preparation, or to any component of the product used for your treatment.
    Infection at the proposed injection site, or an active skin infection in the area to be treated.
    A neuromuscular condition such as myasthenia gravis, Lambert-Eaton syndrome, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or a peripheral motor neuropathic disease. Tell your injector before you book, because these conditions carry an increased risk of significant muscle weakness after treatment.
    Pre-existing swallowing or breathing difficulty. Tell your injector, because clients with these difficulties may be more susceptible to swallowing and breathing complications.
    Pregnancy and breastfeeding. Catara does not treat clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
    Tell your injector about every medication and supplement you take, including aminoglycoside antibiotics, muscle relaxants, and any other botulinum toxin product you have received, because these can increase the effect of a neuromodulator. Also tell your injector about any anticholinergic medicine, because using one after treatment can add to that medicine's own effects. Any decision about your medications belongs to your prescribing clinician.
    Cold or flu symptoms on the day of your appointment, or an active infection you are currently taking antibiotics for. We reschedule your visit until you have recovered.
    A fixed maintenance schedule is not part of our planning. Your injector sets your treatment interval with you based on how your results hold.

    Risks / Side Effects

    Injection site reactions, including pain, tenderness, swelling, redness, and bruising or bleeding.
    Headache.
    Weakness of a muscle near the treated area, which can happen when the product affects muscles beyond the injection site. This is expected to ease as the product wears off. Tell your injector if it does not.
    The effects of botulinum toxin products can spread from the area of injection and produce symptoms such as swallowing or breathing difficulty, generalized muscle weakness, drooping eyelids, double vision, blurred vision, hoarseness, trouble speaking, or loss of bladder control. These symptoms have been reported hours to weeks after injection. Swallowing and breathing difficulties can be life threatening, and there have been reports of death. Seek medical care right away if you or someone with you notices any of them.
    Serious or immediate allergic reactions have been reported with botulinum toxin products, including anaphylaxis, serum sickness, hives, soft tissue swelling, and shortness of breath. Tell your injector about any allergy before treatment, and seek medical care right away if you have trouble breathing, swelling, or a widespread rash after an injection.
    Needle related pain or anxiety can produce a fainting response in some clients, which is why your injector monitors you during and after treatment.
